Headache Cures

I am not sure there are headache cures for every type of headache. Certainly for a simple tension headache, aspirin or acetaminophen can be very effective at relieving your pain. This does not mean you will never have another headache, so in that sense; it probably is not considered a cure. We get headaches for many reasons; tension, sinus problems, colds, flu, eye problems, and annoying situations can all cause a headache. Head injuries can also cause a headache. When I was five or six, I fell and struck my head on a metal chair. I had an enormous goose egg and at that time, the doctors would advise parents not let a child fall asleep after a bump on the head. I didn’t envy my mother that task because I was, and still am a sleepyhead. Going to sleep was all I wanted to do. After a number of minor head injuries throughout my childhood; I’m still here, so he must have been right. Of course my dad attributed it to the fact that I am hard headed and my family and friends know he was right.

For people who suffer from migraine headaches, it’s a matter of managing the pain and accompanying nausea. I’m sure people have tried all kinds of things, but over the counter medicine, prescription medicine, avoiding stress and triggers may be the best measures. Migraine headaches can be triggered by foods like chocolate, caffeine, MSG, cheese, or red wine. Some people find that exposure to strong odors will bring on an attack. Sudden changes in the weather, stress, poor diet, lack of sleep, and changes in your normal routine may all contribute to migraines. Doctors are not completely sure what causes them, but they are widely thought to be caused by changes in the blood vessels in your head. Some people have been helped by using the herb, feverfew to prevent or lessen the pain of migraines. It has relatively few side effects, but be sure to check with a doctor before trying herbal preparations.

For the occasional headache, rest and pain relief medications will have you feeling better in no time. If you have migraines more than occasionally, talk with your doctor about lifestyle changes and medications to help you manage the pain. They may not be headache cures, but they will make living with migraines easier. I read that 75% of migraine sufferers are women and some of them experience relief after menopause. I guess that’s one benefit of getting older.
